Today in music history, 1881, Hungarian composer Béla Bartók was born in Nagyszentmiklós in the Kingdom of Hungary, Austria-Hungary (modern Sânnicolau Mare, Romania). Having composed music for various genres and instruments, opera, ballet, folk and children’s music, solo piano, violin duets, and orchestra, Bartók is acknowledged as one of the most influential and important composers of the 20th century.
